When entering a game, the reason that this process is so important is because there needs to be a dealer that constantly has the table in full view; especially the cheque rack.
There can be no blind spots during this transfer and a dealer is NEVER allowed to leave their game unattended or leave their rack unprotected.
If you are in the middle of a hand; meaning you have already started dealing cards, and then you get tapped on the shoulder, you are to proceed dealing as though you are ignoring your relief.
Once you have completed the current hand, you are to:- Bring the shoe to the center of the table
- Strip one single card out and lay it underneath the lip of the shoe
- Fix your rack if needed a.k.a. "Clean your House"
- Clap your hands together then show palms face up
- Exit Right
Be certain not to leave your game until the incoming dealer has successfully completed the transfer of ownership over the game meaning they are actively paying attention to what is going on on the game at the time.
If you are tapping out a dealer, you will:- Stand behind or to the left of the dealer you are relieving
- Tap the dealer on the shoulder (or clear your hand and tap the table)
- Wait for the dealer to complete their hand and clear their hands
- After the dealer steps to the side, step forward and clear your hands
- Take care of the burn card if applicable at your casino
- Move the shoe back to its original position
- Introduce yourself to the players
- Fix your rack if the previous dealer didn't do it for you
- Case your layout
- Deal
This is a very simple part of being a dealer but if you follow these step exactly as written, you will have no issue relieving or being relieved on any table game.
