When opening a game, you will first be told to do so by your pencil. Once you arrive at your table, this would be a prime time to reach under the table to retrieve the shoe if your game has one. You will then clear your hands and await your floor supervisor to unlock your rack and bring you your decks.
Once floor unlocks your rack, you will immediately remove the lid and place it in its designated spot under your table keeping your head above your table and your eyes locked onto your rack. Once you stand back up, remember to clear your hands before your hands return to the table.
Either you, your floor, or both of you will verify the accuracy of the slip that was located in your rack. If you notice any discrepancies, please do not hesitate to notify your floor of these issues and they will address it.
Floor will then begin placing brand new decks on your table where you will begin to check the cards front and back, verify all cards are present, then shuffle them as discussed in our "Blackjack House Shuffle" video.
Shuffled decks are then placed into the discard rack in an alternating orientation so you and floor can easily keep track of how many decks have been shuffled on your game.
Keep in mind that until all cards have been shuffled, the game is still considered closed and even if there are players waiting to buy in, they must wait for the rack to be verified and all cards to be shuffled before any change can be made.
Please keep in mind that every casino has their own house rules and the procedure shown in this video is just an overview of one way things can be done. Be flexible; your casino may have a very different procedure than this. This is just to get you familiar with a variation of what you may see depending on the casino you go to.
